Fix “Compile Error in Hidden Module” in Word & Excel

compile error in Word and Excel

One of my users complained of getting issues when using Microsoft Excel and Word. Upon checking, she was getting the compile error in Word and Excel.

The error message “compile error in hidden module: autoexecnew” showed up when word/excel was opened and the error message “compile error in hidden module: distmon” showed up when its closed. This was because “pdfmaker.dot” and “pdfmaker.xla” files are in the Microsoft office startup and Microsoft excel startup folders respectively.

To remove these files follow the steps below:
Delete pdfmaker.dot ( for word )
1. Search the file and delete.
2. Locate the file in C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice11Startup
3. C:Documents and SettingsUser NameApplication DataMicrosoftwordStartup

Delete pdfmaker.xla ( for excel )
1. Search the file and delete.
2. Locate the file in C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice11Xlstart
3. C:Documents and SettingsUser NameApplication DataMicrosoftExcelXlstart

These files can either be in both or at one location. Once they are deleted, the error will no longer show up and your Word/Excel will work as normal..
